Supportive Parenting Views-All that Your Child Really Needs

Posted by admin on January 27, 2012 – 4:30 am

As a parent, you will come across all sorts of situations, from the ridiculous to the embarrassing to the simply hilarious. Everyone knows that it involves anger and frustration so there is little need to mention them. When it comes to kids, it’s even more true and most of that is because of how brutal they are with the truth, even when they don’t know they are doing it. That’s one of the great things about growing kids and being surrounded by them

However there are often real lessons for us as parents in these situations. Yes, sometimes our kids help keep us honest, too, and it can be cute while maddening when it happens.

None of us can forget about how exciting our senior year was because we could see just a little light at the end of the tunnel. Then it seemed like our last year with our friends was gone in a blink of an eye. So, you know exactly how they will feel and what they will encounter. This is the time of their life when you should be supportive by offering your advice and being very much a part of their lives. Positive encouragement is always a good thing regardless of how many times you have to reassure them. Just continue to take notice of how well your child copes with high school ending and eventually having to leave the nest. Then continue to use the parent skills that have perfected to this point. We know that everything will be okay. Parenting is pressure enough, but also know that you are preparing your children for their future as adults. This starts with you. Try to start by choosing simple ways they can help you around the house, which will benefit both of you. There has to be a reason for everything, so take the time to tell your kids why you’ve chosen to give them these new responsibilities. Feel free to mix things up and have your children rotate doing the chores. Children will learn the routine of helping around the house a lot quicker if you start slow at a young age. It’s always good to teach your children things that will help them learn many good habits for the future.

All teenagers think they are adults, exactly like their parents. We all know and understand what is going on here and that they really are not, not quite. Believing that something can be done wholeheartedly can be extremely powerful in anyone’s’ hands.

That is why you need to start treating them as the young adults they are. There are a few important ways to do this. One approach is to offer them the territory they want so badly and speak to them like adults while showing them the expectations you have. Setting some new rules will prove important since you want to be aligned with your new found status.

You will discover that parenting will not be as rocky if you can effectively talk with your children. Obviously, this would mean that they are old enough to understand you.
